By: Max F. Arellano / March 23, 2024

Now that it's been on the market for several years, let's take a look at some of the Toyota GR Supra 0-60 times that have been recorded, which range from 4.8 seconds for the inferior 2.0 liter engine, to a very impressive 3.9 seconds with the premium 3.0 liter engine.

Toyta GR Supra 0-60 Times & Specs

The fifth generation of Toyata Supra was introduced in 2020 after a 17 year hiatus, this time branded as the GR (Gazoo Racing) Supra. Since then, five different variants of the GR Supra have been tested.

2020 GR Supra Launch Edition

Toyota GR Supra 0-60 Times: A Fifth-Generation Overview (1)
  • 0-60 Time: 3.9 seconds
  • Quarter Mile: 12.5 seconds
  • Engine: 3.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-6
  • Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic (8A)
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
  • Body Type: Coupe
  • Horsepower: 335 HP
  • Torque: 365 lb-ft

To kick off the new generation of Supra, Toyota released 1500 Launch edition models, with the first one selling for $2.1 Million. Other than a few cosmetic features, such as a red leather interior, it's identical to the 3.0 Supra, which is why the 0-60 time is the same.

2020 GR Supra 3.0

  • 0-60 Time: 3.9 seconds
  • Quarter Mile: 12.2 seconds
  • Engine: 3.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-6
  • Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic (8A)
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
  • Body Type: Coupe
  • Horsepower: 335 HP
  • Torque: 365 lb-ft
  • MSRP: $50,990

The 2020 GR Supra 3.0 shared a powertrain and platform with the BMW Z4, and was only available with an 8-Speed automatic transmission. Reports put its 0-60 time at 3.9 seconds, just barely breaching the 4 second threshold.

Despite facing criticism for its limited cargo capacity and challenges in snowy conditions, the car overwhelmingly received positive acclaim. Enthusiasts praised it as exhilarating to drive and admired its striking design.

2021 GR Supra 2.0

Toyota GR Supra 0-60 Times: A Fifth-Generation Overview (2)
  • 0-60 Time: 4.8 seconds
  • Quarter Mile: 13.4 seconds
  • Engine: 2.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-4
  • Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic (8A)
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
  • Body Type: Coupe
  • Horsepower: 255 HP
  • Torque: 295 lb-ft
  • MSRP: $42,990

In 2021, a year after the Supra's return, a 2.0 Liter option was introduced. It cost about $8,000 less, with the sacrifice being nearly a second off the 0-60 time. Visually, it was identical to the 3.0 trim.

It similarly only featured an 8-speed automatic transmission. Critics suggested that the money saved with the 2.0 wasn't worth the giving up the added acceleration of the 3.0 Liter trim.

2022 GR Supra 3.0

  • 0-60 Time: 3.9 seconds
  • Quarter Mile: 12.3 seconds
  • Engine: 3.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-6
  • Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic (8A)
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
  • Body Type: Coupe
  • Horsepower: 382 HP
  • Torque: 368 lb-ft
  • MSRP: $51,890

Just 2 years into the GR Supra's run, the engine was improved to output 382 horsepower, a 23 horsepower increase. It didn't affect the 0-60 time however, as reports have it reach 60 mph in exactly the same amount of time as the previous 3.0.

2023 GR Supra A91-MT Edition

Toyota GR Supra 0-60 Times: A Fifth-Generation Overview (3)
  • 0-60 Time: 4.1 seconds
  • Quarter Mile: 12.6 seconds
  • Engine: 3.0 Liter Turbocharged Inline-6
  • Transmission: 6-Speed Manual (6M)
  • Drive Type: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
  • Body Type: Coupe
  • Horsepower: 382 HP
  • Torque: 368 lb-ft
  • MSRP: $58,345

A manual transmission option was finally introduced in 2023, which came standard on the A91-MT edition - the version that would be tested by multiple outlets. It would reach 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, a couple fractions of a second slower than its automatic counterpart. You can expect the same time for the non A91-MT edition trim, as this badging simply adds various cosmetic features.

Verdict

The Toyota GR Supra 0-60 times are great considering the car's price. Sure, the performance-to-price quotient might not be as high as a Mustang GT or Camaro SS, but it certainly undercuts a lot of the other sports cars.

For example the manual transmission option's acceleration is only slightly behind a manual-equipped BMW M4, while costing over $20,000 less.

And if you're talking about cars that break the 4 second threshold - a metric the aforementioned muscle cars do not accomplish - very few others will do it at this price point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Supra faster than a Bugatti?

When it comes to sheer velocity and blistering acceleration, the Toyota Supra and Bugatti operate in different universes. A Bugatti, such as the Chiron, is a hypercar that boasts top speeds north of 250 mph and can rocket from 0-60 mph in under 2.5 seconds, thanks to its quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing around 1,500 horsepower.

The Supra, while impressively quick, is built with a different philosophy in mind, focusing on balance, handling, and accessibility. So, no, the Supra isn't faster than a Bugatti, but it's also not trying to be. It's more about the thrill of driving than about breaking speed records.

How fast can a 2024 Supra go?

The 2024 Supra can achieve a top speed of approximately 155 mph. These figures are often electronically limited for safety and legal reasons.

As for acceleration, the top-tier models equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine can sprint from 0-60 mph in just under 4 seconds, showcasing the vehicle's sporting pedigree. It's reasonable to expect future iterations to hover around these performance benchmarks.

How much horsepower does the GR Supra 2.0's engine make?

The GR Supra 2.0, equipped with its 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, churns out a respectable 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is a testament to Toyota's engineering prowess, offering a spirited driving experience that balances performance with efficiency.

While it may not boast the raw output of its 3.0-liter sibling, this engine provides ample zest for most driving enthusiasts, making the Supra 2.0 a joy to navigate through both winding roads and city streets.

Is a stock Supra fast?

Absolutely, a stock Toyota Supra is indeed fast, particularly when you consider its performance in the context of its design and market segment. The latest 3.0-liter turbocharged variants can dash from 0-60 mph in just under 4 seconds, a figure that rivals and even surpasses some esteemed sports cars.

Even the 2.0-liter models, with their 255 horsepower, offer a 0-60 mph time under 5 seconds, ensuring that even the entry-level Supra provides a quick and engaging drive.

Is the 2.0 Supra worth it?

The 2.0-liter Toyota Supra offers a compelling package for those who prioritize agility, fuel efficiency, and a lower entry price without compromising the essence of a sports car experience. With its lighter front end and balanced distribution, the Supra 2.0 delivers nimble handling and a dynamic drive that's hard to match in its price range.

While it doesn't pack the same punch as the 3.0-liter version, it's by no means a slouch. For many enthusiasts and daily drivers, the 2.0 Supra strikes an ideal balance between performance, comfort, and value, making it not just worth it, but a smart choice for a broader audience.
